In a remarkable survival story from Mardan, a miner who remained trapped inside a marble mine for 17 days has been rescued alive, leaving both locals and observers astonished.
⛰️ The Incident
The tragedy occurred on March 31 in the Palodheri area, where workers were engaged in marble mining when a sudden landslide caused massive rocks to collapse into the mine.
The incident resulted in:
- 8 workers losing their lives
- 3 workers sustaining injuries
- 1 worker reported missing
Rescue teams from Rescue 1122 immediately launched an operation, recovering the deceased and injured on the same day. However, the search for the missing worker continued for over two weeks.
🚨 A Miraculous Rescue
On April 16, after 17 days of continuous efforts, rescuers successfully pulled out the trapped worker alive from the mine tunnel — a moment described by many as nothing short of a miracle.
The survivor, identified as Abdul Wahab from Mohmand, later shared his incredible experience.
🙏 Faith and Strength Kept Him Alive
Abdul Wahab revealed that he remained conscious throughout the ordeal and never lost hope.
“I didn’t know whether it was day or night, but I continued offering prayers regularly,” he said.
He maintained a sense of routine by using prayer times as mental checkpoints, which helped him stay focused and mentally strong.
💧 Surviving Without Food
During the 17 days underground:
- He had no food at all
- He survived on rainwater seeping into the mine
Despite the harsh conditions, he managed to conserve energy and stay alive in an extremely confined and dangerous environment.
💔 Emotional Struggle
Wahab shared that thoughts of his family kept him going, especially his mother, who was unwell at the time.
“I remembered my parents constantly. I even cried thinking about my mother’s health,” he said.
🧠 Mental Resilience
To keep himself active, he occasionally moved within the limited space available to prevent weakness in his legs.
He also kept reassuring himself:
“I will get out safely, no matter how many days it takes.”
Eventually, when he sensed rescuers nearby, he called out — and his voice was heard.

After his rescue, Wahab urged authorities and contractors to improve safety conditions in mining operations.
